About this speaker
Brian has been working with overhead athletes for 20 years starting as a physical therapist at Virginia Commonwealth University Sports Medicine in 2000, where he was a Physical Therapy consultant for the AAA Richmond Braves. In 2004, he began working as the athletic trainer for the University of Virginia Baseball team. He has had the opportunity to work with many elite baseball players including 11 first-round draft picks while at UVA. Brian has also worked with USA baseball on 3 occasions, and was the athletic trainer for the 2008 Collegiate Baseball World Champions. His expertise is in the area of improving efficient movement patterns, with a specific interest in the kinematics and kinetics of pitching. He uses skills learned from many clinical specialty areas when designing and implementing prevention and rehabilitation programs including CES, SFMA, 3-D MAPS (Movement Analysis and Performance System), and AFS (Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute.) Brian has been recognized by 2 honorary Societies at UVA, the Cyrus Society and the Z Society. He has also been recognized as a clinical scholar by the NATA. Brian graduated from Slippery Rock University Athletic Training Program in 1993 as a Presidential Scholar. He went on to get his Masters Degree from the University of Virginia in Sports Medicine in 1994 and later received a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in 1999. Prior to working at VCU, he has worked internships with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. He has also worked overseas as an athletic trainer for the Scottish Claymores of the NFL-Europe League.
